Character/Theme

There are many themes Stevenson might have been trying to convey through out the story. One of them could be about appearance. In the story, when Mr. Hyde is mentioned, Stevenson discribes him as ugly and short and makes him sound like the bad guy. From human nature, we tend to get a first impression about a personand judge. So from the discribtion of Mr. Hyde, you might think of him as evil. Stevenson might be doing this on purpose to show the reader not to judge a person based on his appearance.

  1. I agree fully. When Mr.Stevenson brings up Mr. Hyde, I also believe it was to show a theme. Appearance should not be everything but when human nature kicks in, its not unlike for people to judje, just as we did with Mr. Hyde. Did you notice that the first time Mr.Hyde was brought up he was doing something so frightening that it still gives me chills? There had to be a reason Stevenson brought up Mr.Hyde being so monsterous. Instead of just having Mr.Hyde walk by in a grocery store or something, there was a purpose, and Mr.Stevenson was trying to prove it.
